What is Penis Curved
A curved
penis or bent penis (or penile curvature) is a common condition
that can be very problematic and can impede a man from having a healthy sexual
life. It is estimated that 1% - 3% of men suffer from severe penile curvature,
making it a common male condition. While often used and perceived synonymously,
a "bend" is usually the term used for a much more severe penis
curvature. A bend usually involves scar tissue (such as in) Peyronie’s
Disease. A simple curvature almost never has scar tissue.
Simple Defininition

bend in the penis that usually occurs during erection.

What causes a curved
penis?
Following
is a list of some of the major factors that are responsible for causing
majority of the cases of the curved penis.
1)Inborn cause (congenital curvature): Congenital curvature comes from birth
or it can also occur somewhere in the first couple of weeks. While such
deformation of penis usually corrects itself without any treatment in
most cases, it persists in some cases i.e. the penis curve usually gets more
pronounced (or becomes noticeable at first place) in the time of the puberty.
This is because male intimate organ grows much faster in this period of your
life due to the secretion of sex hormones i.e. testosterone. Sometimes the flaw
is just aesthetic but for some, it can severely impede a normal sex life,
making sex difficult, painful, or even impossible.
2)Trauma / injury: Many men, who are not born with a
curved penis, can develop one later on in life as a result of trauma inflicted
on the penis. Although the penis obviously has no bones inside it, this kind of
trauma can still cause permanent damage. Sex-related accidents, even those you
would not think twice about after they happen, can cause ruptures inside the
penis which stunt growth. When the penis is hurt in this way, it often causes
one side of the penis to stop growing. While the healthy side outgrows the
damaged side, the penis will effectively become curved.
3) Ill-fitted clothing: When the males (who wear very tight
underwear or pants) get erections, their penile tissue becomes restricted and,
to some extent, immobilized. In addition, they often curve their penises over
to the side to hide the awkward erection. This affects the enlargement because
blood will flow better through one side of the spongy tissue and while leaving
the other side undernourished depriving it of oxygen and other important
nutrients.
4 4)Sleeping on stomach: Although not medically proved, some
sexologists and reproductive experts do ask adolescent to refrain from sleeping
on stomach. The hypothesis is that sleeping on stomach has a “compression”
effect on the blood vessels of the penis and it naturally results in a reduced
blood to the spongy tissues of the penis. This eventually leads to the reduced
growth of the tissue of the penis, often on one side and hence results in the
formation of curvature.
5 4)Peyronie's disease: The most common cause for a curved
penis is Peyronie's disease. Peyronie´s is a degenerative disease, if left
untreated it will continue to get worse. The most common result of this disease
is an increasingly curved penis, sometimes to the extent that it makes sexual
intercourse painful or impossible.
Other causes: In addition, there are some other
medical causes or disorders that can lead to the formation of curve in the
penis. These commonly include:
Dupuytren's
contracture: This is
a cord-like thickening across the palm of one or both hands. It is a fairly
common disorder in white men over age 50. However, only a very small number of
people with Dupuytren's contracture develop curvature of the penis.
Urethral
stricture: Obstruction
of urethera (the small tube that carries the urine and semen to and out of the
penis).
Hypospadias: Another genetic penile abnormality
How the penis curve
develops?
The
natural curvature occurs when the two chambers of the penis develop at different
rates through the years, thus bending the penis toward the slower developing
chamber. There is no way that such a natural development tendency can be
forecast and prevented, although there are treatments available to correct the
problem.
Possible directions of
penis curve
The
most common direction of a penis curve is a curvature of the penis upward. It
could also be bent to one side. It is also possible to have the penis be
completely erect, but still pointing straight downward as though it were on a hinge
at the base. This deformity in the shape of the penis is noticeable, and it can
make sexual contact difficult. The penis may also take on an hourglass shape in
which it looks as if there is a band wrapped around the shaft. Similarly, a
curve to the left is more apparent than any other curve.
Why the penis curves on
erection?
Most
of the time, the penis only takes its curve upon erection.
This
is because:
·
The
part of the penis that is causing the curve has less skin than the rest of the
penis.
·
There
is scar tissue on the penis. (which does not stretch as well as normal skin)
·
Part
of the skin on the opposite side of the curve has been stretched out (from
constrictive clothing, constant positioning, or pulling)
Are there any complications of the curved penis?
If
left untreated, the condition usually gets worse and leads to the inability to
have intercourse or may make intercourse difficult,
painful, or impossible. Impotence can also occur.
Is there a treatment?
If
you are having trouble getting erections or you find intercourse to be painful or
if you simply feel uncomfortable by the “looks” of your penis, you may need to
take steps to deal with. The easiest approach is with penis traction, this
involves stretching the side of the penis that has the scar tissue so that it
matches the other side. Another option is to use a cream that contains
verapamil (a calcium channel blocker drug) which helps to break up the scar
tissue. The last resort for dealing with a curved penis is surgery; this is a
drastic solution and should only be considered if every other option has
failed.
All
in all, a bent or a curved penis is a common condition that should not be
ignored. In fact, nothing should stand in the way of your sexual satisfaction
and contentment especially something as correctable as penis curvature. You
might think that your penile curvature is no big deal, but it can cause many
problems which are detrimental to your sexual health. Therefore, act now before it’s too late!
